This is the fourth oldest branch also dating back to the 17th Century. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to prove a direct connection between it and the three earlier branches. Having said that it is almost certain that a connection will be proven soon. Recent DNA testing indicates a very strong possibility that this branch has the same ancestors as does Branch 1a of the original Cawthorne-Ingbirchworth tree.
In 1831, a small group from this branch emigrated to the USA whilst other members of the same family remained in the UK. One Willoughby Micklethwait, one of his brother’s sons and other members of the family emigrated; whereas, Willoughby’s brother Jonathan remained in Yorkshire.
Because of the size of this branch, it has has been split up into the six following separate branches.
