Educated at Kings College, Cambridge. BA 1596. MA 1599. Rector of Cherry Burton from 1613 until he was silenced by the Church in 1662. Was the Yorkshire representative on the Westminster Assembly of Divines. He was known by his parishioners as ‘burnt–roast’ because of the length of his sermons! Buried at Cherry Burton 3 Nov 1663. He died intestate and a widower. On 22 Dec 1663 administration of his effects was given to his son Dr Sir John Micklethwait of the parish of St Botolph extra Aldersgate, London.
