Earliest records indicate that our ancestors arrived in England, cleared ground and started work as Yeomen. From these humble beginnings and over the centuries, many of their descendants achieved considerable prominence in society.
The following tables are extracted from the family trees page and list those members of the family whose achievements warrant special mention.
Note: Those members who do not have ‘Micklethwait’ as their last name are included on the family trees because they married a Micklethwait daughter.

The information listed above has been transcribed from old family records. In addition, we have tried to obtain details of any other manorial lordships held by the Micklethwait family.
There has never been a requirement for Lords of the Manor to register, and as such, there is no central record to which one can refer. Further discussions established that tracing manorial lordships is nigh impossible even today, when they can still be bought and sold.
Old family records together with the occasional lucky finds amongst manorial documents are the most likely way of tracing manorial lordships. And so far, we have learnt that the family were at one time Lords of The Manors of:
- Blythburgh with Walberswick
- Blythburgh, late Priory (lands)
- Thorington Wimples
- Westleton
- Hinton, late Priory (lands)
- Mells in Wenhaston
- Westleton Cliffes, otherwise Cleaves
- Metfield
- Withersdale
- Chevenhall, otherwise Chepenhall
- Rawlings with Elmham
- Ilketshall, Ellis and Strattons – all in Suffolk
- Wroxham and Salhouse in Norfolk
- Priors Hall at Birchanger, Essex.
If you know of any family member who you feel should be listed here, please contact us to advise us of their special achievements.
In addition to the above achievements, there are two interesting obituaries and a service record about our ancestors on another page.
